Yiddish short fiction from Russia by a writer who embraced Communism, only to become disillusioned, which led to his imprisonment and death in a gulag. There are three stories, Remnants, on a woman seeking happiness, Impoverished, on a father and his daughters, and Departing, which looks at the effect of a suicide on the friends and family of the victim.
