Newtownstewart is a village and townland of in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is overlooked by hills called Bessy Bell and Mary Gray and lies on the River Strule below the confluence with its tributary the Owenkillew. It is situated in the historic barony of Strabane Lower and the civil parish of Ardstraw. In the 2021 census it had a population of 1,414 people. It lies within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

In the 2001 Census it had a population of 309 people. It is in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area and has a small community hall and its own sports ground.
