They played an influential role in the history of eastern Iran and southern Afghanistan during that time, and by the second half of the 10th century they had built a semi-independent principality in Khurasan.

The Ashide (; Middle Chinese: *ʔɑ-ʃɨXtək̚; Old Tibetan: A sha sde’) were a Turkic tribe and a high ranking noble family in Turkic Khaganate. It was related to the ruling dynasty of the Turkic Khaganate, the Ashina tribe.
