The Principality of Apselia was an ancient polity located on the Black Sea coast of the northwest Caucasus near the estuary of Kodori river. Soterioupolis
Soterioupolis (; "City of the Saviour") or Soteropolis (Σωτηρόπολις) was a Byzantine fortress in the southeastern Black Sea coast during the 10th–12th centuries. The name has been suggested to apply to two different localities, Pitsunda in Abkhazia and Borçka in Turkey.

The Ahchipsou were a Sadz (Abkhaz-Abazin) tribe, that lived on Caucasus Major, near the modern border of Krasnodar Krai and Abkhazia. They lived at the upper Mzymta, and its inflow Achipse, modern Krasnaya Polyana, Adlersky City District, Sochi, Russia. The Ahchipsou were dominated by the clan of Kazılbeg Azaguyipa.
