History of Leeuwarden

Leeuwarderadeel (; ) is a former municipality in the northern Netherlands. Its capital was Stiens.

Littenseradiel () is a former municipality in the northern Netherlands, known in Dutch as Littenseradeel (). The municipality was formed on 1 January 1984 by a merger of the former municipalities Baarderadeel and Hennaarderadeel. On 1 January 2018, the municipality was dissolved and its territory was split between three other municipalities: Waadhoeke, which was established that day, Leeuwarden and Súdwest-Fryslân.

Boarnsterhim (; ) was a municipality in the northern Netherlands. On 1 January 2014, the municipality was dissolved and its territory was split between four other municipalities: De Friese Meren, which was established that day, Leeuwarden, Heerenveen and Súdwest-Fryslân.

Tresoar (West Frisian for "treasure") is the short name for the Frysk Histoarysk en Letterkundich Sintrum ("Frisian History and Literature Center") in Leeuwarden.
