Reykjavík
Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It is located on the southern shore of the Faxaflói bay in southwest Iceland and has a latitude of 64°08′ N, making it the world's northernmost capital of a sovereign state. Reykjavík has a population of around 139,000 as of 2025, and the surrounding Capital Region has a population of around 249,000, constituting approximately 64% of Iceland's population.

Hafnarfjörður
Hafnarfjörður, officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður, is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about south of Reykjavík. The municipality consists of two non-contiguous areas in the Capital Region, on the southwest coast of the country. At about 31,500 inhabitants, Hafnarfjörður is the third-most populous city in Iceland after Reykjavík and Kópavogur. It has established local industry and a variety of urban activities, with annual festival events.

Mosfellsbær (, colloquially Mosó) is a town in south-west Iceland, east of the country's capital, Reykjavík. The coat of arms of the municipality is a tightly-knotted triquetra, a symbol often used in Celtic knotwork and strongly associated with the Celtic nations (which featured prominently in Celtic spirituality as well as Ancient Celtic religion in the past and, to some extent, to this day). Reykjanesbær
Reykjanesbær () is a municipality on the Southern Peninsula (Suðurnes) in Iceland, though the name is also used by locals to refer to the suburban region of Keflavík and Njarðvík which have grown together over the years. The municipality is made up of the towns of Keflavík and Njarðvík and the village of Hafnir. The municipality was created in 1994 when the inhabitants of the three settlements voted to merge them into one. Reykjanesbær is the fourth largest municipality in Iceland, with 21.957 citizens (2024).

Norðurþing () is a municipality located in northern Iceland. Norðurþing was formed in 2006 when the municipalities of Húsavík, Öxarfjörður, Raufarhöfn, and Kelduneshreppur were merged after special elections in January 2006 and the region was officially declared a new municipality on 10 June 2006.

Bláskógabyggð ( ) is a municipality located in Iceland's Southern Region. Its major settlements are Laugarás and Laugarvatn. The municipality was formed in 2002 after the merger of Laugardalshreppur, Biskupstungnahreppur and Þingvallahreppur. Snæfellsbær
Snæfellsbær () is a municipality located in western Iceland, in the southwestern part of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Its administrative centre is Hellissandur and the majority of the residents live in the coastal villages of Ólafsvík, then Hellissandur and Rif. There is a small airfield near Rif and at Gufuskálar the Hellissandur longwave radio mast. Along the municipality's south-east coast is the settlement of Búðir and the Hótel Búðir and closer to the volcano of Snæfellsjökull are the coastal villages of Hellnar and Arnarstapi.

The municipality includes the towns of Patreksfjörður, with 721 inhabitants; Tálknafjörður, with 261 inhabitants; Bíldudalur, with 238 inhabitants; and Krossholt, with 19 inhabitants. Ásahreppur () is a municipality in central Iceland, located on the western edge of Rangárvallasýsla. The name "Ásahreppur" comes from the natural ridges in the area known as "the ásar". The community is bounded by the bridge of Þjórsá river to the west on the Ring Road, and the boundary extends about from Landvegamót to the east. A bridge has existed across Þjórsá since 1895.

Fljótsdalshreppur () is a municipality in Iceland. The Municipality of Fljótsdalur in the Fljótsdalur valley covers more than , extending from the glacier Vatnajökull in the south to in the north the Lagarfljót river with the large Hengifoss waterfall. The Fljótsdalur valley is divided into the South valley and the North valley at the central peak of Múli. A large area of land of the highland plateau in the municipality of Fljótsdalur is part of the Vatnajökull National Park, which encompasses spectacular natural resources and is important in Icelandic cultural history.

Þingeyjarsveit
Þingeyjarsveit () is a municipality located in Iceland. The Vaglaskógur birch wood, one of Iceland's largest woods, is located in the municipality. The district school and sports centre can be found in Laugar. In 2022 the municipality merged with Skútustaðahreppur under its own name, making the municipality the largest in Iceland by area. The municipality agreed to change their governance from a mayor to a council.

Hörgársveit
Hörgársveit () is a municipality located in north-central Iceland, in Northeastern Region. Its seat is the village of Lónsbakki . The municipality covers an area of approximately 893 km² and had an estimated population of 791 in 2024, resulting in a population density of around 0.88 inhabitants per km². Hörgársveit was established in 2001 through the merger of Skriða, Öxnadalur, and Glæsibær, and was further extended in 2010 when Arnarnes was incorporated.

Suðurnesjabær (, "southern peninsula town") is a municipality on the northwest tip of Iceland's Southern Peninsula. It includes the towns of Sandgerði and Garður, and was created on 10 June 2018 from a merger of those two municipalities, with the name chosen by its residents the following November. It is the location of Keflavík International Airport, the country's largest airport (serving nearby Reykjavík), and it is adjacent to the town of Keflavík, in the municipality of Reykjanesbær.
