Pathein
Pathein ( ; , ; , ), formerly called Bassein, is the largest city and the capital of the Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. It is located 190 km (120 mi) west of Yangon within Pathein Township on the bank of the Pathein River—a western branch of the Irrawaddy River. The city had a population of 172,923 in 2019. Although once a part of the Mon kingdoms, Pathein has few ethnic Mon residents today. The majority are of Bamar ethnicity with significant Karen, Indian, Rakhine and Chinese populations.
Hinthada
Hinthada (; formerly Henzada) is a town located on the Irrawaddy River in Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. It is the principal town of Hinthada Township and Hinthada District. The trade of locally grown rice and grain goes through the port of Hinthada.
Pyapon
Pyapon (; , ) is a town and seat of Pyapon District as well as Pyapon Township in the Ayeyarwady Region of Myanmar, along the Pyapon River, a distributary of the Ayeyarwady River. It is located about inland from the Andaman Sea, about south of the previous capital, Yangon. In 2023, it had a population of 47,082. It serves as a center for collecting rice from the surrounding agricultural areas, and is home to a diesel-run power plant, using equipment by the German firm Siemens.

Ngwesaung
Ngwesaung ( ), also spelt Ngwe Hsaung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. It is the namesake of Ngwesaung Subtownship, Pathein Township. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5 hours drive, with no traffic, away from the principal city of Yangon, and an airport is in the works. Buses leave at 6am & 9:30pm from in front of the Yangon Central Railway Station. Opened in March 2000, Ngwe Hsaung is newer than nearby and more popular Chaung Thar Beach, and is designed to attract people with larger holiday budgets.
Bogale
Bogale ( ; also spelled Bogalay) is a small city located in the Bogale Township, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar (Burma). It is located on the south-western part of Myanmar on the mainland section of the country. It can be reached by both water transportation and by land.

Myanaung
Myanaung (, , ) is a town in northern Ayeyarwady Region of south-west Myanmar. It is the capital of Myanaung District and the administrative seat of Myanaung Township. The town has six urban wards, numbered one through six going from the north to the south. The town is located along the western bank of the Irrawaddy River and serves as a railway and waterway stop between Lower Myanmar and Kyangin. The Light Infantry Battalion 51 is based just outside of Ward 6 next to the Industrial Zone serving the town.

Mawlamyinegyun (; also spelt Moulmeingyun and known as Mawgyun), is a town in southern Ayeyarwady Region in south-west Myanmar. It is the seat of the Mawlamyinegyun Township in the Labutta District. The town is situated in the delta of the Irrawaddy River. The town lies at the confluence of the Razudai and Tonle Rivers and is subdivided into 13 urban wards.

It is the hometown of former Secretary-General of the United Nations U Thant, who was known in Burmese naming convention as Pantanaw U Thant. The renowned modern painter Ba Nyan was also born in Pantanaw.

Pyinsalu (, ) is a town in Labutta Township, Ayeyarwady Region of south-west Myanmar. It is the administrative seat of Pyinsalu Subtownship, an informal subdivision of Labutta Township used for statistical and administrative purposes. The town of Pyinsalu has 3 urban wards and 516 houses as of 2023 located on the southernmost parts of Labutta Township near the Pyinsalu distributary of the Irrawaddy River. According to the 2014 census, the town had 2217 people.
