Its source is approximately west of the northern Ural Mountains. It flows roughly in a western direction, through the Komi Republic and Arkhangelsk Oblast. The largest city along the Vychegda is Syktyvkar, the capital of the Komi Republic. The Viled, the Yarenga, and the Vym are among its main tributaries. The Vychegda flows into the Northern Dvina in Kotlas (Arkhangelsk Oblast).

It is long, and the area of its basin . The principal tributaries of the Vashka are the Mytka (left), the Loptyuga (right), the Yortom (left), the Yevva (right), the Sodzim (right), the Puchkoma (left), the Zyryanskaya Yezhuga (left), and the Chulas (right).

It is a right tributary of the Vychegda. The river is long, and its drainage basin covers . The principal tributaries are the Vezhay (left) and Uktym (right). The Yarenga is the main river of the Lensky District north of the Vychegda and collects virtually all the drain of that area.
