Vesterålen
Vesterålen ( , ; ) is a district and archipelago in Nordland county, Norway. It is located just north of Lofoten and west of Harstad. It is the northernmost part of Nordland county. Sortland is the largest town, situated near the center of the archipelago. Vesterålen includes the municipalities of Andøy, Bø, Hadsel, Sortland, and Øksnes.

The only road connection to the isolated village of Nyksund is from the south, coming from the village of Myre, about away.

Stø
Stø is a fishing village in Øksnes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the northern tip of the island of Langøya, along the Gavlfjorden in the Vesterålen archipelago. In 2001, there were about 175 residents. This village was the administrative centre of the old Langenes Municipality which existed from 1919 until 1964.

The lake sits at an elevation of above sea level, about west of the village of Alsvåg, along the road to Myre.

Barkestad
Barkestad is a small fishing village in Øksnes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the southwest side of the island of Dyrøya in the Vesterålen archipelago. The village is located about off the west coast of the main island of Langøya. There are regular ferry stops at Barkestad with connections to other nearby islands and to the municipal centre of Myre, located about to the northeast. There are only four residents of the village (in 2017) after many years of population decline. They are the only permanent residents of the whole island.

Gavlfjorden
Gavlfjorden is a fjord (more accurately, a sound) in Nordland county, Norway. The long fjord separates the large islands of Langøya and Andøya in the Vesterålen archipelago and it runs along the border of three municipalities: Øksnes, Andøy, and Sortland. In the north, the fjord flows out into the Norwegian Sea, and in the south, the fjord splits into the Sortlandssundet strait and the Risøysundet strait.
