adv

Etymology: From parapatric + -ally.

  1. Of the ranges of organisms, in a parapatric manner; in a manner that is adjacent, but not significantly overlapping.

Where it comes parapatrically in contact with the parental species, it will establish a narrow secondary hybrid zone (reproductive isolation will rarely be complete at the beginning).

It is easy to see how diversifying selection could result in the formation of parapatrically distributed races.
