Pronunciation: /ʌnˌaɪənaɪˈzeɪʃən/

noun

Etymology: From un- + ionization or unionize + -ation.

  1. Synonym of deionization.

In this case, the dissociation of the acid and unionization (or hydrolysis) of conjugate salt should be taken into account for calculating [H⁺] [i.e., Equation (2.39)].

The acid or base form is the unionized form and salt form is the ionized form of the corresponding acid or base. Accordingly, ionized and unionized can be substituted in the above equations in order to calculate the amount of ionization or unionization at a particular pH value.
