Aaron Ciechanover

Aaron Ciechanover is an Israeli biochemist, chemist, physician, and pedagogue born in Haifa in 1947. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy and serves as a professor at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where he also works. His professional affiliations include the Technion and the Whitehead Institute. He studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Hadassah Medical Center, and the Technion. He is a student of Avram Hershko and has a sibling named Joseph Ciechanover.

Ciechanover’s work spans biology and chemistry. He has received the Israel Prize, the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and the Sir Hans Krebs Medal. He is a member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He speaks English and Hebrew, his native language.
