Abdul Basit 'Abd us-Samad (عبد الباسط عبد الصمد) (1988-1927) was an Egyptian Qur'anic Recitor, considered to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of his era. He is admired worldwide for his superb breath control and high, clear melodious recitation with perfect pitch and tone control, a feat that requires a great deal of self discipline. He was an inspiration for many students to learn the rules of Tajwid (تجويد), the art of beautiful recitation of the Qur'an and its correct application.
