آلساندرو ولتا

Alessandro Volta was an Italian physicist, inventor, academic, and chemist born in Como in 1745. He worked at the University of Pavia and held the position of senator. His professional interests included physiology, and he wrote in Italian and Latin. Volta was a count and a Catholic who belonged to the Franciscans religious order. He had one child, Luigi Volta.

Volta received several honors, including the Copley Medal, the Knight of the Legion of Honour, the Order of the Iron Crown, and Fellowship in the Royal Society. He was a member of the Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze detta dei XL, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the French Academy of Sciences, and the Academy of Sciences of Turin. His notable works include *Description d'une machine nouvelle de dynamique* and *De vi attractiva ignis electrici*. He died in Como on March 5, 1827.
