Amélie Nothomb

Amélie Nothomb, born Fabienne Claire Nothomb in 1967, is a Belgian writer, screenwriter, and novelist. She was born in Etterbeek, Brussels-Capital Region, Belgium, and is educated at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Her writing career began in 1992, and she works primarily in the field of literature and prose, often associated with postmodern literature. She writes in French and speaks Japanese.

Nothomb has received several awards, including the Prix Alain-Fournier, Prix de Flore, Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française, and Prix Renaudot. She is a member of the Academie Royale de Langue et de littérature Françaises and has been honored with the title of baron. Her notable works include *Hygiene and the Assassin*, *The Character of Rain*, *Tokyo Fiancée*, and *The Book of Proper Names*. She is published by Éditions Albin Michel.
