Asellota
Sign in to saveAsellota is a suborder of isopod crustaceans found in marine and freshwater environments. Roughly one-quarter of all marine isopods belong to this suborder. Members of this suborder are readily distinguished from other isopods by their complex copulatory apparatus. Other characteristics include six-jointed antennal peduncle, the styliform uropods (a character shared with some other isopod groups), the fusion of pleonites 5, 4 and sometimes 3 to the pleotelson, and absence of the first pleopod in females.

Wasserassel: nach links oben zeigend der Kopf mit den Antennen, nach rechts unten weisend das Pleotelson mit den Uropoden. Jaera albifrons aus dem Intertidal des Hafens von Zeebrugge (Belgien). Macrostylis uniformis, präpariertes Exemplar aus dem Weddell-Meer vor der Küste Antarktikas. Die Asellota sind eine Unterordnung der Asseln (Isopoda). Ihre Vertreter leben sowohl im Süßwasser als auch im Meer, wo sie an den Küsten, aber auch in der Tiefsee bis zu 10.000 Metern Tiefe, zu finden sind.
