We are also a short distance from Millwood State Park and White Cliffs. If you’re in town during football season, come see the high school Panther team toss the ol’ pig skin. It depends on who you ask! Some say that Ashdown is named after the national Ashdown Forest in England. It is the wonderous forest that inspired Winnie-the-Pooh and the 100 Acre Woods. Others say there was a large fire early in our history and the town was burnt down to ashes. It’s really anyone’s guess! Ashdown became the county seat in 1906 and constructed the present courthouse a year later. The Little River County Courthouse, Neo-Georgian in design and topped by a dome, is a platform for a gorgeous display. The building is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ashdown (formerly Turkey Flats and Keller) is a city in Little River County, Arkansas, United States. The community was incorporated in 1892 and has been the county seat since 1906. Located within the Arkansas Timberlands between the Little River and the Red River, Ashdown's economy and development have historically been tied to the timber industry. Timber is still a major industry here.
Ashdown's population at the 2020 census was 4,261, a slight from the 2010 census. The city's well-preserved history and proximity to outdoor recreation, such as Millwood State Park, draws tourists.
