Astley Cooper

Sir Astley Cooper (1768–1841) was a British surgeon, anatomist, pathologist, and personal physician. Born in Norfolk and dying in London, he held citizenship in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and the United Kingdom. He was a male who wrote in English.

Cooper received the Copley Medal and was made a baronet. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony. His notable works include *Lectures of Sir Astley Cooper, Bart. F. R. S. Surgeon to the King, &C. &C. on the Principles and Practice of Surgery*, *Observations on the Structure and Diseases of the Testis*, *The Anatomy and Diseases of the Breast*, *A Treatise on Dislocations and Fractures of the Joints*, and *Manual of Surgery*. He is described in the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary, The Nuttall Encyclopædia, and the Encyclopædia Britannica 11th edition.
