Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) ist ein Kommunikationsprotokoll, welches sich für die Übertragung von Daten, Sprache und Video eignet. Die Layer-2-Pakete werden Zellen oder Slots genannt, haben eine feste Länge (53 Byte, davon 48 Byte Daten, 5 Byte Zellkopf) und werden über asynchrones Zeitmultiplexing übertragen.
