Auguste Mariette

Auguste Mariette, born François Auguste Ferdinand Mariette in 1821, was a French Egyptologist, archaeologist, curator, and writer. He served as a director and curator, holding the noble titles of bey and pasha. His professional affiliations included membership in the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, the Academy of Sciences of Turin, the Société nationale des Antiquaires de France, and the Academia Imperial de Belas Artes. He received the Knight, Officer, and Commander distinctions of the Legion of Honour.

Mariette authored numerous works, including *Aperçu de l'histoire d'Egypte*, *Les papyrus égyptiens du Musée de Boulaq*, *Album du Musée de Boulaq*, *Voyage dans la Haute-Égypte*, and *Notice des principaux monuments exposés dans les galeries provisoires du Musée d'antiquités égyptiennes à Boulaq*. His personal library is held at the Institut Français d'Archéologie Orientale, and his archives are located at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. He died in Cairo in 1881 from diabetes and is buried there.
