Berthold Auerbach

Berthold Auerbach was a male poet and writer who held citizenship in the Kingdom of Württemberg. He was educated at the University of Tübingen, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, and Heidelberg University. Auerbach wrote in German and also spoke English. He received the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art. His literary output includes works such as *Verzauberung des Herzens*, *Schwarzwälder Dorfgeschichten*, *Berthold Auerbachs Werke*, and *Das Landhaus am Rhein*. He also used the pseudonym Theobald Chauber.

Auerbach was detained at Hohenasperg. He died in Cannes. His archives are held at the German Literature Archive Marbach. He is described in sources including the *Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie* and the *Jewish Encyclopedia of Brockhaus and Efron*.
