Die Telenovela basiert auf der erfolgreichen kolumbianischen Telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea, die ebenfalls als Vorlage für Verliebt in Berlin und Ugly Betty diente. Die Premiere der Telenovela fand am 6. Februar 2019 auf dem spanischsprachigen US-Sender Telemundo statt. Die deutschsprachige Erstausstrahlung erfolgte mit einer Preview der ersten beiden Folgen am 26. Juli 2020, und wurde mit der regulären Ausstrahlung beginnend am 27. Juli 2020 auf Sixx fortgeführt.
