The Bostrichidae are a family of beetles with more than 700 described species. They are commonly called auger beetles, false powderpost beetles, or horned powderpost beetles.

Капюшонники, или лжекороеды (лат. Bostrichidae) — семейство насекомых из отряда жесткокрылых. Длиной до 15 мм. Внешне похожи на короедов. Голова прикрыта переднеспинкой, как капюшоном (отсюда название). Около 550 видов, распространены преимущественно в тропиках. Жуки и личинки живут в древесине больных и мёртвых деревьев, в изделиях из неё, реже в семенах злаков, зерне. Многие виды повреждают лесоматериалы. В Европейской части России обычен Капюшонник обыкновенный (Bostrychus capucinus), чёрный, с красными надкрыльями и брюшком. Вид Bostrychoplites cornutus имеет большие отличительные рога расположенные на грудке. Этот вид распространён в Африке и Аравийском полуострове.

==Anatomy== left|thumb|Dinoderus brevis thumb|left|Heterobostrychus aequalis larva The head of most auger beetles cannot be seen from above, as it is downwardly directed and hidden by the thorax. Exceptions are the powderpost beetles (subfamily Lyctinae), and members of the subfamily Psoinae. Bostrychoplites cornutus has large, distinctive thoracic horns, and is found in parts of Africa and Arabia; it is often imported to Europe as larvae in African wooden bowls ("ethnic souvenirs") .
