Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr., known as Buzz Aldrin, is an American male astronaut, fighter pilot, and writer. Born in 1930 in Glen Ridge, Montclair, he holds United States citizenship and speaks English. He served as a colonel in the United States Air Force and participated in the Korean War. His educational background includes attendance at the United States Military Academy and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

A member of NASA Astronaut Group 3, Aldrin was employed by NASA and served on the crews of Apollo 11 and Gemini 12. He spent 17392 units of time in space. His professional roles extend to being an autobiographer and science fiction writer, with notable works including Magnificent Desolation, Welcome to Mars, Men from earth, and Return to earth. He has authored 36 works.

Aldrin is a member of the Republican Party and the International Academy of Astronautics. He has received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Order of Culture, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Air Medal. He is recognized in the Hollywood Walk Of Fame collection.
