The island of New Guinea - in the western South Pacific Ocean, and within the Melanesia subregion and bioregion in Asia and Oceania.

The island's eastern half forms the mainland of the country of Papua New Guinea. The western half is the Western New Guinea and comprises six provinces of Indonesia: Central Papua, Highland Papua, Papua, South Papua, Southwest Papua and West Papua.
