Charles Eames

Charles Eames (1907–1978) was an American designer, architect, filmmaker, and film director. Born and deceased in St. Louis, he was educated at Washington University in St. Louis and later worked for Harvard University. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His professional activities included participation in Documenta III and work within the Catalan modernism movement.

Eames is known for his contributions to modern architecture, furniture design, industrial design, and graphic design. His work often involved furniture construction and was produced in Los Angeles. He was married to Ray Eames, and the pair operated as the entity Charles and Ray Eames. His works are held in the collections of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. He spoke English.
