In addition to Citizen brand watches, it is the parent of American watch company Bulova. The company was founded in 1918 by Kamekichi Yamazaki as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute. It released its first Citizen-branded pocket watch in 1924, and Citizen Watch was established in 1930.
