David Simon is an author, journalist, and writer-producer of television shows based on his books. He was born in Washington, D.C., graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, and then worked as a police reporter at The Baltimore Sun from 1984 to 1988. He paused to write the 1991 book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, which described his life traveling with members of the Baltimore Police Department. Lavorò come giornalista del Baltimore Sun per dodici anni (1982-1995) ed è l'autore di (1991) e (1997), scritto con . Sul primo è basata la serie NBC Homicide (1993–99), di cui Simon è autore e produttore. Mentre il secondo libro è stato adattato dalla HBO per la miniserie (2000). Simon è il creatore della serie televisiva HBO The Wire (2002-2008), di cui è stato produttore esecutivo, autore e showrunner per tutte e cinque le stagioni.
