E. E. Evans-Pritchard

Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard was a British social anthropologist, political scientist, and ethnologist. Born in Crowborough, Sussex, in 1902, he worked as a university teacher at the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Oxford, Cairo University, and the University of Cambridge. He was educated at Exeter College, University of Oxford, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. His field of work was cultural anthropology, and he was a student of Bronisław Malinowski.

Evans-Pritchard received the awards of Fellow of the British Academy and Knight Bachelor. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. His notable works include *Les Nuer*, *Essays presented to C. G. Seligman*, *The place of the Sanusiya order in the history of Islam*, *Torot shel dat primiṭivit*, and *A history of the kingdom of Gbudwe*. He participated in World War II and died in Oxford in 1973. His doctoral students included Mary Douglas and Talal Asad.
