Eduard Bernstein

Eduard Bernstein (1850–1932) was a German philosopher, writer, economist, and editor. Born in Schöneberg and deceased in Berlin, he held citizenship in both the German Empire and the Weimar Republic. A member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany, and the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Germany, he adhered to the political ideologies of democratic socialism and social democracy. Bernstein was of Jewish ethnic descent and his relative included Aaron Bernstein.

He worked primarily in Berlin and wrote in German. His notable works include *Die Voraussetzungen des Sozialismus und die Aufgaben der Sozialdemokratie*, *Was die Sozialdemokratie will*, *Der kommunismus*, *Wie ist wissenschaftlicher Socialismus möglich?*, and *Die englische Gefahr und das deutsche Volk*. His archives are held at the International Institute of Social History.
