Erich Seligmann Fromm (March 23, 1900 – March 18, 1980) was a German social psychologist, psychoanalyst, humanistic philosopher, and democratic socialist. He was a founding member of the Frankfurt School of critical theory which sought to meld Marxist and Freudian theory in its approach to cultural and historical analysis.
