Encyclopedic overview
Erie County is the northernmost county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is not to be confused with the much larger, and much more populated Erie County, New York. As of the 2024 census estimate, the population was 265,832. Its county seat is Erie. The county was created in 1800 and later organized in 1803. The county is part of the Northwest region of the commonwealth.
