Erwin Schrott (born 21 December 1972 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is an operatic bass-baritone, particularly known for his interpretation of the title role in Mozart's Don Giovanni. Schrott made his professional debut in Montevideo at the age of 22, singing Roucher in Andrea Chénier. Following a stint at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile, where he sang Timur in Turandot, Colline in La bohème, Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Ramfis in Aida, he won a scholarship to study in Italy. <a href="https:

Bass-baritone Erwin Schrott is acclaimed internationally in the world ́s most prestigious operatic theatres such as Milan ́s Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Washington National Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Hamburg State Opera, Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro Communale di Firenze, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova and many others. As exclusive Sony Classical artist with two very successful recordings: CD Arias; his Rojotango Album reached world wide recognition in 2011 and was awarded by the ECHO Classic Award. The season 2015/16 appearances have included Figaro at Covent Garden and Leporello in Vienna, followed by performances as Don Giovanni in both Munich and Buenos Aires, and as Attila in Palermo. In the title role of Mefistofele he appeared in Baden-Baden, a role which he also performed later on in Munich. Guest appearances as Don Giovanni at Theater an der Wien and in Budapest, as well as Leporello at Vienna State Opera followed. His debut as Scarpia in Tosca at Staatsoper unter den Linden in February 2017 marked a new highlight in his repertory. Considerable acclaim Schrott earned for his Leporello at the Metropolitan Opera in April 2017. After three completely sold out concerts as Don Giovanni in Shanghai with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra the season 2016/17 included appearances, among others, at the Opera in San Francisco, the Rossini Festival in Pesaro where he debuted Il Turco in Italia in 2016 and sang Stabat Mater in 2017. The opera season 2017/18 started for Erwin Schrott at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden with Les Vêpres Siciliennes, two sold out concerts of Attila at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Opera Lyon, the Vienna State Opera with Elisir d ́Amore, Tosca and Faust, the Opéra Monte-Carlo with I Puritani and the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, where he sang in Mefistofele and Les Vêpres Siciliennes. Followed by a debut of Cenerentola at La Scala in Milano. The crowning glory of the saison 2018/19 formed further Faust at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Tosca at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Don Giovanni at the Opera Festival Chorégies d ́Orange, along with a gala concert at the Munich Opera Festival (Bayerische Staatsoper) called “Tango Diablo” in summer 2019. The season 2019/20 started for Erwin Schrott with Don Giovanni at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, L ́elisir d ́amore at the Teatro Real in Madrid and a debut in Anna Bolena at the Royal Opera House in Oman. In spring 2022 Erwin Schrott will perform in opera productions in Paris, Budapest and at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Besides his work as operatic singer Erwin Schrott dedicates his time and work yearly to various charity organisations who help and support kids in need.
