Beim Apnoetauchen [aˈpnoːəˌtaʊ̯χn̩] oder Freitauchen atmet der Taucher vor dem Abtauchen ein und nutzt im Gegensatz zum Gerätetauchen für den Tauchgang nur diesen einen Atemzug. Den Zeitraum des Luftanhaltens bezeichnet man als Apnoe ([aˈpnoːə], aus altgriechisch ἄπνοια ápnoia „Nicht-Atmung“ zu πνοή pnoé „Atmung, Atemzug“).
