== Name == The ancient name of Gadabay was Getabak (, Russian: Kedabek). Vardan Areveltsi, a historian from the 13th century, mentions the toponym in the plural form Getabakkʻ. German scientist Heinrich Hübschmann hypothesized the toponym comes from Armenian, and composes from two words get (գետ, "river") and bak (բակ, "yard").
