George Roberts, "Mr. Bass Trombone," is probably the most influential musician to play the bass trombone. He took it from being relegated to the obscure position of subordinate background instrument to solo status. His lyrical style of playing in the very lowest end of the trombone register has inspired many of todays professional classical and jazz trombonists. He spent many years playing for Nelson Riddle and Frank Sinatra. His is the low trombone sound that can be heard in the background
