Georges Duby

Georges Claude Michel Duby was a French historian, university teacher, medievalist, and art historian. Born in the 10th arrondissement of Paris on October 7, 1919, he died in Le Tholonet on December 3, 1996. He was educated at the University of Lyon and served as a full professor at the Collège de France, the University of Provence - Aix-Marseille I, and Marie and Louis Pasteur University. His professional work locations included Paris, Aix-en-Provence, and Dijon.

Duby was a member of the Académie Française, the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, the Academie Royale de Langue et de littérature Françaises, and the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona. He received the Commander of the Legion of Honour, the Grand Prix Gobert, the Concours général, and the prix Gobert. His doctoral advisor was Charles-Edmond Perrin, and his doctoral student was Paul-Albert Février. He wrote in French, and his archives are held at the Institute for Contemporary Publishing Archives.

Notable works include *Mâle Moyen Age*, *Villages désertés et histoire économique*, *Oeuvres*, *L'economia rurale nell'Europa medievale*, and *Els Ideals de la Mediterrània dins la cultura europea*. He is recognized in the Academie Francaise collection.
