Hemlata was a playback singer in Bollywood in the 1970s and early 1980s. She won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award for her classical rendition Tu jo mere sur main.. in Chitchor. She began her career by singing Chanda ko dhoondhne... in Jeene Ki Raah (1969) which was a duet with Lata Mangeshkar.
