Irène Némirovsky (Kiev, 11 febbraio 1903 – Auschwitz, 17 agosto 1942) è stata una scrittrice francese di origine ebraica, vittima dell'Olocausto. Nata in Ucraina, di religione ebraica convertitasi poi al cattolicesimo nel 1939, ha vissuto e lavorato in Francia. Arrestata dai nazisti, in quanto ebrea, Irène Némirovsky fu deportata nel luglio del 1942 ad Auschwitz, dove morì un mese più tardi di tifo. Il marito, Michel Epstein, si attivò per cercare di salvare la moglie inviando un telegramma il 13 luglio 1942 a Robert Esménard (il suo editore del momento) ed a André Sabatier presso Albin Michel, proprietario della casa editrice Grasset che pubblicò molte opere di Irene, per chiedere aiuto: "Irène partita oggi all'improvviso. Destinazione Pithiviers (Loiret). Spero che voi possiate intervenire urgenza stop Cerco invano telefonare".Anche il marito morì nel novembre dello stesso anno ad Auschwitz. Dal 2005 la casa editrice Adelphi ha iniziato a pubblicare le sue opere.
