Jean Metzinger

Jean Metzinger was a French painter, poet, illustrator, and art theorist born in Nantes in 1883. He worked primarily in Paris, where he died in 1956. His professional activity spanned from 1903 to 1953. Metzinger is associated with the Cubism movement and produced works in the genres of Neo-impressionism, portrait, figurative art, and still life.

He wrote the text *Du "Cubisme"*, also titled *On "Cubism"* and *Über den "Kubismus"*. Other notable works include *Etudes sur les sulfamides et sur la sulfamidorésistance*, *Cycling, cubo-futurism and the fourth dimension*, and *Le cubisme était né*. His paintings are held in the collections of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Modern Art.
