Jeffery Astle, commonly known as Jeff Astle, was a British football player, who had a long and successful career as a centre-forward of West Bromwich Albion FC. In 1970 he topped the charts when, as part of the England World Cup squad, he'd contributed to the stirring 'Back Home'. He made a solo single the following year: a slightly countrified version of 'Sweet Water', penned by Guy Fletcher and Doug Flett. In the id-1990s Astle would appear at the end of the 'Fantasy Football League' TV show
