John Hunter

John Hunter, born in East Kilbride on 13 February 1728, was a British military physician, physician, university teacher, and surgeon. He studied under William Hunter and was educated at St George's, University of London and Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and was also employed by the University of London. His student was Edward Jenner. He served in the British Army, was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the American Philosophical Society, and received the Copley Medal and the Croonian Medal and Lecture. He married Anne Hunter and died in London on 16 October 1793, of myocardial infarction.
