John Koukouzeles (b. 1280) is the most significant medieval Bulgarian saint, church singer and composer from the 13th century, music theorist and reformer of Byzantine musical notations. Since he was endowed with a wonderful voice, his contemporaries called him "The Angel". He received his education in the imperial singing school in Constantinople, the Byzantine Empire.
