The group consists of six members: Kim Chae-hyun, Huening Bahiyyih, Choi Yu-jin, Kim Da-yeon, Ezaki Hikaru, and Shen Xiaoting. Originally a nine-piece ensemble, former members Kang Ye-seo and Sakamoto Mashiro departed from the group in July 2024, and Seo Young-eun departed in March 2026.

The final lineup was announced on October 22, 2021, during the final episode of Girls Planet 999. They were set to promote for 2 years and 6 months starting on their debut date. Kep1er officially debuted on January 3, 2022, with their first mini album, FIRST IMPACT . The group made their Japanese debut on September 7, 2022. Ahead of their contracts expiration, it was announced that 7 members decided to extend their contracts. The group continued as 7 members after “ Kep1going On ” promotions, as Mashiro and Yeseo did not renew. On July 4, 2024, Mashiro and Yeseo’s contacts officially ended, but they concluded their activities with the group after their scheduled Japanese concert, on July 15, 2024. On March 6, 2026, it was announced that Seo Youngeun had terminated her contract and Kep1er will continue as 6 member group. Group Name Meaning: The “ Kep ” represents “catching a dream,” while the “ 1 ” symbolizes the members uniting as one to strive for the best. The name also pays homage to the German astronomer Johannes Kepler and reflects the planetary and space theme introduced during their formation on the survival show Girls Planet 999 . Kep1er (; ) is a South Korean girl group formed by CJ ENM through the Mnet reality competition show Girls Planet 999 in 2021. The group consists of six members: Kim Chae-hyun, Huening Bahiyyih, Choi Yu-jin, Kim Da-yeon, Ezaki Hikaru, and Shen Xiaoting. The group debuted on January 3, 2022, under the co-management of WakeOne and Swing Entertainment with their first extended play (EP) First Impact. Upon its release, the group received immediate commercial success, selling approximately 400,000 copies and peaking at number 1 on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart. In addition, both the EP and its lead single "Wa Da Da" charted on the Billboard Global 200 and World Digital Songs respectively. The early success subsequently hailed them as the New Wave of the Year at several awards ceremonies, including Asia Artist Awards and Seoul Music Awards.
