Konrad Adenauer

Konrad Adenauer was a German lawyer, judge, assessor, and resistance fighter born in Cologne in 1876. He served as the Federal Chancellor of Germany, member of the German Bundestag, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, and leader of the Christian Democratic Union. A member of the Centre Party and later the Christian Democratic Union, he was also affiliated with Rotary International, the Teutonic Order, the Deutscher Werkbund, and the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques. His political career included participation in the 1949 West German presidential election and the Parlamentarischer Rat.

Adenauer was educated at the University of Freiburg, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, and the University of Bonn. He received the Charlemagne Prize, Bavarian Order of Merit, Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, and Orden wider den tierischen Ernst, and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. He authored works such as *For Europe - peace and freedom* and *Berlin weist den Weg*. He died in 1967, leaving behind eight children.
