Labé, home of about 59,000 people, is the regional capital of Moyenne Guinee, also known as Fouta Djallon. As well as being the largest city of its region, it is the second most populated one in the entire country, after Conakry, the national capital.

Labé lies close to the geographic centre of the country.

Get in

Labé lies some 450 km northeast of Conakry. The street from Koundara to Labé is paved, except for a roughly 30km section starting after Komba, which is between Gaoual and Labé. A shared taxi costs 150,000 FG per person and takes 4-5 hours. (2023)

==History== The city was founded in the 1720s by the Fulani people and named for their chief, Manga Labé. It developed as a major trade center linking the Niger river to the Atlantic coast.
