Lev Berg

Lev Berg was a Russian explorer, geographer, zoologist, and ichthyologist. He was born in Bender in 1876 and died in Komarovo, Saint Petersburg, in 1950. His citizenship included the Russian Empire, Russian Republic, Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic, and Soviet Union. Berg was educated at Imperial Moscow University and Lomonosov Moscow State University. He worked for the Russian Geographical Society and specialized in ichthyology, evolutionism, geography, and the evolution of fish.

He received the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the Medal "For the Defence of Leningrad," the Medal "For Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945," and the title Honored Scientist of the RSFSR. His doctoral advisor was Vasili Dokuchayev, and his doctoral student was Anatoly Isachenko. Berg had a child named Raisa Berg. He is buried at Volkovo Cemetery Writer's Walkways. His name in his native language is Лев Семёнович Берг. He spoke, wrote, and signed in Russian.
