Macbeth è la decima opera lirica di Giuseppe Verdi. Il libretto, tratto dal Macbeth di William Shakespeare, fu firmato da Francesco Maria Piave. Dopo l'iniziale successo, il 14 marzo 1847, al Teatro della Pergola di Firenze, l'opera cadde nel dimenticatoio, e in Italia fu riportata in auge con strepitoso successo al Teatro alla Scala il 7 dicembre 1952, con Maria Callas nei panni della protagonista femminile. Da allora è entrata stabilmente in repertorio.
