She starred in two Alfred Hitchcock films, The Lady Vanishes (1938) and Suspicion (1941), and earned her second Academy Award nomination for the war-drama Mrs. Miniver (1942), the highest grossing film of 1942. Her other film roles include The Constant Nymph (1943), Lassie Come Home (1943), Madame Curie (1943), Gaslight (1944), and Green Dolphin Street (1947).
