The Metropolitan City of Florence (Italian: città metropolitana di Firenze) is a metropolitan city in the region of Tuscany in Italy. Its capital is the city of Florence. It was first created by the reform of local authorities (Law 142/1990) and then established by the Law 56/2014, replacing the province of Florence, and has been operative since 1 January 2015.
It has a population of 988,494 in an area of 3,513.69 square kilometres (1,356.64 sq mi) across its 41 municipalities.
